lyrics

She was moored on the banks of Saint Francis Bay
and all who gazed upon her knew not what to say
she hung like a jewel; a beacon in the night
'tis true, she was a beauteous sight
'tis true, she was a beauteous sight

She was packed to the gills with treasures galore
and the lords and the common folk came in great score
through candlelight gangways and mazes of treasure
they came seeking revelry and pleasure
yeah they came seeking revelry and pleasure

The had built it with wood held together with rope
burnished with desire and the sails raised with hope
I could see its proud mast made from the strongest of beams
and they still dance aboard in my dreams
yeah they still dance aboard in my dreams

And on one night she hosted a glorious ball
with merriment and revelry to be had by one and all
the dancers and the dreamers and the artisans and bards
came to twirl about under the stars
came to twirl about under the stars

and even my old lady, who I'd not seen in years
came aboard on this night, thought it moves me to tears
slipped through unnoticed found her place on the floor
never to be seen anymore
never to be seen anymore

cause the candle on the wire ignited the rope
when the deck had caught fire there just wasn't any hope
I could see its mast break hear the splitting of the seams
and they still dance aboard in my dreams
yeah they still dance aboard in my dreams

Well they searched through the wreckage to find who was to blame
the Captain and his first mate, they called them by name
and the choirs of judgement raining hell from above
could never bring back my dear love
no never bring back my dear love

now the ships are all empty their gangways are sealed
what life they once held are tales told in the field
but I see that old Ghost Ship, and its half open door
beckoning for revelry once more,
yeah, beckoning for revelry once more

They had built it with wood held together with rope
burnished with desire and the sails raised with hope
I could see them there now hear their laughter and screams
and they still dance aboard in my dreams
yeah they still dance aboard in my dreams
